Kyle Fowler in his Long-EZ
Introducing Kyle Fowler and the Long-EZ
Kyle Fowler, hailing from central Alberta, Canada, is no ordinary aerobatic performer. He showcases his remarkable flying skills in a truly unique aircraft—a Rutan-designed Long-EZ that many call “the backwards plane” due to its distinctive canard layout and rear-mounted engine. At the 2024 Lake Cumberland Air Show in Kentucky, Kyle and his Long-EZ brought a fresh dimension to the sky, captivating audiences with graceful loops, rolls, and an unmistakable silhouette.
The Long-EZ: A Distinctive Experimental Marvel
Originally conceived by aviation pioneer Burt Rutan, the Long-EZ features a canard forewing and pusher-propeller configuration, setting it apart from traditional aircraft. Sleek and efficient, this experimental design enables long-distance flight, cruising up to 160 knots and traveling over 1,000 nautical miles on a single tank. Though the Long-EZ is not built for aggressive aerobatics, Kyle employs its graceful handling characteristics and smooth maneuverability to deliver a mesmerizing aerial display. Its futuristic profile and the “flying backwards” look quickly turn heads, making it a fan favorite wherever it appears.

Kyle Fowler’s Path to the Airshow Circuit
Kyle’s passion for aviation is rooted in family tradition. Following in the footsteps of his father, Ken Fowler of Team Rocket, Kyle immersed himself in aviation from a young age. He began announcing his father’s performances at age 12, obtained his Private Pilot’s License at 21, and later earned his Commercial Pilot’s License and Commercial Multi IFR Rating. Over the years, he has fine-tuned his craft, emerging as a dedicated aerobatic performer who seamlessly balances professional piloting duties with his love of airshows. Today, Kyle’s routines reflect his deep commitment to evolving as a pilot and entertainer, inspiring others to pursue their own dreams in aviation.
